show the color and minimise waste. The rough opal parcels shown on
this page are genuine Australian opal, originating from Mintabie and Lambina.
We occasionally have opal from Coober Pedy. The originating opal
field is shown in the description accompanying each parcel.

This parcel is very clean, bright, multicoloured crystal opal from Lambina. These stones have a beautiful golden base with green/gold and multi-colored flashes. There is little waste material in this parcel, with most pieces displaying the face of the stone.

Rough Opal Information
When buying a parcel of rough opal, yield is an important factor, affecting the value of the finished product.
Minimising waste will maximise profit.
Most of the rough opal parcels sold by Laszlo have been carefully cleaned and rubbed to expose the precious opal "face". In many instances, minimal shaping or grinding is required in order to polish the opal.
Cutting and polishing opal is a creative and rewarding experience, and owning jewelry with stones cut by you makes the jewelry more special!

Opals are weighed:
Polished opals are weighed in carats. 1 carat = 1/5th of a gram.
(1 gram = 5 carats).
